Fury Update March 2021

We made some significant progress with Fury this month - we leash trained her! it is actually the first time she has left the shelter since July 2019. Up until recently we just didn't have the staff available to start walking the dogs but since our volunteers switched form cleaning to walking the dogs - we have much more chance to walk them.

She was resistant at first but soon got to like her walks.

She has had good health this month - no problems at all - no illness and no injury.
She has been spending her time with her daughter Suki as usual.

Judy Update March 2021

Judy has had a very good month with no illness or injury at all. She has become so much more playful in the last few weeks - pretty much non-stop playing. Also her fur has started to look so much better as we have been able to do more regular bathing once a week since Rachel our new assistant started.

Judy March 2021

She is also much friendlier with people as we have allocated a volunteer to specifically work with her - brushing her, stroking her and playing with her.
We are going to start leash training with her this month as we don't think she has ever been on a leash

Fria Update March 2021

Fria has now settled into life in the general population as she is out of the puppy run. She is like a little live wire and doesn't stop running around and playing. She plays mostly with Corrie and Lara the two black puppies that were in quarantine with her. Unfortunately for Fria (but lucky for us and them) Corrie and Lara were just adopted together by a foreigner who owns a resort here.

Fria has been with these two constantly since November / December last year but she is so sociable we are sure she will be ok.

We have started leash training her - one of our volunteers Jonathan took her out yesterday but she refused to move from the Shelter. He had to carry her to the end of the walk and then she walked very hurriedly back!
We are still hoping we can find a good home for her especially given her tragic start in life.  She really is the sweetest little girl, jumping over visitors and licking them.

Fria March 2021

She has developed a bit of a fungal infection over the last couple of weeks which is very common at the shelter. It affects their fur - we now have to bath her 3 times a week with Mycocide shampoo to get rid of it.

Winston Update March 2021

In the last couple of weeks we switched the volunteers from cleaning duties to purely playing with and socialising the dogs. Plus we have a new assistant, Rachel, whose job is to focus on the unsociables.
Winston let himself be touched by Christine for the first time yesterday and gave her a playful bite! He is also getting more playful with the other dogs.
He looks so much happier so I guess he just needed some extra attention.

He has had no health issues at all in this last month and we are tentatively going to start to try to leash train him this month so hopefully he will make good progress from now on.

Jake Update March 2021

Like all older street dogs, Jake was quite unresponsive to attempts to connect with him or stroke him but he is now slowly becoming more sociable and receptive to our stroking and calling his name.
His surgical wound has taken a long time to heal as it got infected early on. It is now just a small patch -we are at the point now where we can allow it to scab over for the final bit of healing.

Doc Pierre bought special moist healing pads to put on the wound and we also use manuka honey. He is such a good patient - he doesn't move at all when we treat his wound - he just stands there calmly!  His hair has grown back completely now

He is still in quarantine but has now been castrated so in around 2 weeks he will be able to leave quarantine and join the rest of the dogs. We are hoping that he will not be bullied like Will, our other three-legged resident. Matty our adopted three-legger always stayed in the quarantine area except for a couple of times he went for a wander.

We have someone interested in adopting two older dogs when they move into their new house.  Jake might be a good choice as he isn't really attached to the Sanctuary in the way some of the other older dogs are.
