Patchie – Adopt a Stray

Patchie

Patchie when rescued

On 25 January 2024, under our "Adopt a Stray" programme, we responded to a second emergency call for a hit and run victim.
We sometimes feel we are drowning and not getting anywhere, but slowly we are. There are fewer reports now from a year ago. And you don't often see too many emaciated strays.

Patchie's story is a common one.  Inattentive, speeding drivers, and poorly lit roads are the primary contributing factors.  Luckily for Patchie, the reporter agreed to adopt him once he is better.  He is getting there, and now has a home to go to, and not wander the streets getting tangled in traffic.

On 27 January 2024, under our "Adopt a Stray" programme, we rescued a young puppy with a broken left hind foot.  He was also in poor condition and infested with parasites.

Nero staged a remarkable comeback, and is now with his new owners heading for his new home.  If you know of a stray in distress, and can commit to providing a cage-free happy home, we will take them in, treat them, spay or neuter them, and return them to you to begin a happy life together.  See our Adopt a Stray Programme page for more details.

Cherry – Adopt a Stray

Cherry

On 27 January 2024, a black puppy was found on the street, very weak and near to death. Under our Adopt a Stray Programme, we rescued her as her reporter agreed to adopt her once she had been returned to health by us.   Her rescuer Aliah called her Cherry. She had Parvovirus, but is now fully recovered.  She was collected on 1 February 2024 ready to embark on a new life full of love and hope.

Puti – Adopt a Stray

On 31 January 2024, under our "Adopt a Stray" programme, we took in an older stray dog that one of our significant local sponsors wanted to adopt, as they wanted to give him as comfortable and happy as they could for his final years.  They called him Puti.

We took blood tests and checked him for Parvovirus and Distemper.  He was just in a state of lethargy and undernourished.  We bought him back to strength, give him all his shots and neutered him, before handing him back to his reporter to live out a normal, healthy life.

Lugaw – Adopt a Stray

Lugaw

Lugaw (which is a type of Filipino breakfast porridge!) was reported on 7 January 2024 in the Escano area of Dumaguete City.  She was in poor condition generally, but the worst of her problems was the severe neck wound probably caused by a chain or collar that was on too tight, possibly since she was a puppy.

We have had a number of rescues over the years with similar thoughtless wounds, but the prognosis is good, as once the wound is cleaned, and the risk of infection is kept under control, the skin and fur often grows back, as can be seen with
Alix.  On 31 January 2024, she was returned to the people who agreed to adopt her, who will make sure she never has to be chained again.
