GRACE

Grace

Grace was found wandering around the street with a huge tumor, by one of our team members Stella.  The owner but couldn’t afford the surgery, so we rescued her.

She is very old - maybe 15 years - and sadly the tumour is returning.

grace'S STORY

Grace's tumor was particularly large, and as we did not have our Sanctuary built at the time, she was operated on by a Private Vet.

Can you imagine the poor thing carrying that around with her!

Grace

Grace

She was very anti-social when she first got to the shelter and stayed in the quarantine area and didn’t want to come out even when it was time. It took her around 4 months before she would come up to the kitchen area

We couldn’t pet her for about 6 months but she soon became the first at the table when we were eating lunch. She used to rest her head on your knee looking up at you with a sad look on her face.

Grace

She was so gentle when you gave her a bit of food – she never snapped.  Sadly, her tumor showed signs of growing back in early 2021, and we were faced with a dilemma - more surgery while she was relatively strong carried a risk from not recovering from anaesthesia (and the tumor would likely come back) - surgery later would be even riskier later as she grew older and weaker.

In the end, Nature took its course and she died peacefully and painlessly in her sleep during the night of Saturday 17 April 2021. We are sad to see her gentle soul pass on, but are reassured that her twilight days were spent in the caring environment of the Sanctuary, and she knew peace at the end.
