Toffee

In May 2023, two puppies were abandoned outside the Sanctuary, just before our latest Distemper outbreak.  They struggled to survive - one of them didn't, but Toffee here did.  He's a very bouncy, loving young dog with a bright future if only the right adopter could be found.  Is it you?

Toffee's Story

On 15 May 2023, we found two very young puppies abandoned close to the Sanctuary.  It's an all-to-common occurrence which we are beginning to combat through our Adopt a Stray programme and the Might Shaun Memorial Clinic.  We names the puppies Tawnee and Toffee.

They were dealt the double-blow of not just being abandoned and having their mother taken from them, but finding themselves at the Sanctuary at the beginning of another Distemper outbreak.  During these periods, our population of rescues is under threat, particularly the very young and the very old, so we cannot rescue more animals or adopt any out.

Sadly, Tawnee succumbed to the disease.  Vaccination is the only protection, but it is not 100% effective, and although she received her jabs, she didn't make it.

Happily for Toffee he did survive, but missed that important adoption window when dogs are still young enough for most adopters to consider.  It's a sad truth that when they get a little older, and a little bigger, the chances of them being adopted diminish.  We hope, as we do for all our rescues, there's someone out there who sees Toffee and falls in love with him, just as we have.
