RASCAL

Rascal

In March 2023, we rescued dog with a hernia that meant his penis was permanently extended, which much have been very painful for him.  The operation was a success, and now Rascal is looking for a new home!

Rascal's Story

On 3 March 2023, we rescued Rascal, who was a stray that was being looked after by a garage attendant. He was in good condition but had a problem with his penis and a large hernia.  We removed the hernia and tried to fix his penis, but to no avail. Rascal had the same condition as Davey, where his penis was permanently out. This leads to constant abrasions and infections and is incredibly uncomfortable for them.

Earlier this year, our vets recommended a penis amputation for Davey, which significantly improved his demeanor. He became so much friendlier and happier after his surgery! Like Davey, Rascal was also aggressive due to constant pain, so we knew an amputation would be the best option to free him from the pain and discomfort.

In May, our volunteer vets for Isabela performed the amputation, and Rascal completely transformed after that. He’s such a friendly dog now, loves human attention, and generally seems much happier.
Many people ask how a male dog pees after having his penis removed. During the surgery, the vet makes an opening in the urethra, so the dog can pee like a female.
