JESSA

Jessa

Jessa was one of seven adult dogs rescued from being euthanised in early December 2022.  She was pregnant at the time, and gave birth a day or so later.  Two of her three pups survived, and they all have another chance at life.

Jessa's Story

On 1 December 2022, we did something we rarely do - we paid a visit to the Dumaguete Pound, hoping to find one of our main supporter's dog, Bluebell, who had gone missing. Sadly she wasn't there, but we couldn't face the thought of leaving the poor dogs there awaiting a lethal injection later that day.  Jessa was one of them.

The Pound collects reported strays and keeps them for three days, waiting for any owner to claim them.  When they are not (and most are not), the City's policy is to put them to sleep.  We cannot take every Pound dog, which is why we don't visit if we can help it.  It's just too painful. One of the seven, Champ, never made it through the night - he was just too ill - but we gave him a chance all the same.  RIP Champ.

Jessa was pregnant and gave birth to three puppies, two of which survived (Bryce and Bettina), and they stayed in the Quarantine area in their own private room. After Quarantine, treatment, spaying and neutering, five of the seven were released to the main Sanctuary area, but they didn't integrate well and there were lots of fights, so we moved them into "Milo's Old Pound" to allow them some freedom and safety, and to get used to their new surroundings.

Four remain at the moment - Sterling, Jammie, Joy and Gene - and Jason has escaped to the area around the Main Office and found new friends there.

Jessa We have some very painful news to share. Yesterday, 1 August 2023, we had to put Jessa to sleep. Anyone who has had to make this decision knows how utterly difficult it is to make.We rescued Jessa from the pound in December 2023, just hours before she was scheduled for Euthanasia.
