MARTA

Marta

Marta

We picked up a dog with a horrific injury to her foot - or rather what was left of it - on 4 November 2021. We called her Marta after one of our loyal supporters in Spain.

There was no option but to amputate, but we hope in common with other "tripods" like Matty and Molly, she will then begin to lead a normal, pain-free life.

WARNING - MARTA'S MISSING FOOT IS A DISTURBING SIGHT, SO PLEASE BE PREPARED FOR SOME UNCOMFORTABLE IMAGES IF YOU SCROLL FURTHER.

Marta's Story

Despite the Sanctuary being overpopulated, and funds stretched beyond measure, we had to take Marta in.  Her right hind leg was an open wound, with the bones of her foot protruding.  It must have hurt terribly, but Marta stood bravely by while she was rescued, and her foot cleaned and wrapped.

We appealed for funds to treat Marta and were so happy when over 30,000 pesos was donated online, and she secured a monthly sponsor.  You can find out more about sponsoring a dog at the Sanctuary, which involves a commitment to a small, regular, monthly donation, by visiting the Sponsorship page.

Marta's injured foot

There was no foot to be saved, so we had to amputate, but not before waiting for her platelets to rise under medication and proper nutrition before scheduling her surgery a week or so later.

The surgery seems to have been a success, and she was up and happily walking around the same day. We hope she continues to make a full recovery, and that some adopter will be a very lucky person to find cheerful, gentle Marta in their life.
