GRACIE

Gracie

In August 2022, a very thin, hairless dog was picked up by DAS supporters Henrik and Dong.  She was shivering with cold, or fear, or both.

We bought her in to see if we could give her a fresh start.  We called her Gracie.

Gracie's Story

On 8 August 2022, a DAS supporter Hannah reported a very thin, hairless and petrified dog, and as we had nobody available to collect her, yet more good friends of DAS went and collected her - Henrik and Dong. She had bad sores on her hind quarters, almost no hair, and was starving. Her blood tests were not good, she was very anaemic and had a high infection.

We put her on an IV for the first few days, as she was so dehydrated and wouldn't eat.  After a few days, she started eating again, which is always a good sign.  We can only hope she continues to climb out of her desperate state and return to health.

Gracie

We have some terribly sad news - Gracie passed away the morning of 3 September 2022.
We knew saving her was a long shot as she had kidney failure when we rescued her. We were hoping that it was not chronic kidney disease and that with medication she would recover, but her kidneys were too far gone.
Rina was with her so she didn't die alone, in fact she has never been alone since we rescued her as we have round the clock care for all our critical cases - three staff on night shift.

Gracie after rescue

Gracie really did fight hard to survive and was eating right up until the end. If a dog is eating we are always hopeful.  We gave her the ceremony that we give all the animals that pass at the Sanctuary.  Run free Gracie - we are sorry we couldn't save you.
Thank you to everyone who donated for Gracie and also her sponsor Kristine. And of course to Henrik for rescuing her and the people who reported her - you can read her full story on her profile page
here.
